The presence of abnormal cells that pose a problem in the body poses a serious threat to a person. Many lives are claimed each year from cancer and cancer is certainly not something to take lightly.

The earthquake and devastating tsunami that hit Japan in March – and damaged its Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant – has raised concerns worldwide about the health effects of exposure to radiation. Some in the United States began the accumulation of potassium iodide (KI) supplements because of its ability to protect the thyroid radiation treatment gland with radioactive iodine.
Currently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been monitoring radiation levels around the country, noting that the levels are slightly above normal, but “still well below levels of concern for public health.” So for now it seems that the threat of radiation to those living in the United States are minimal.
